3.0 good | Shoegazer29 | February 10th 12 | A bit short on material, but for a stop-gap release Matthew Dear gives us some interesting morsels to chew on before the release of his next LP this year. "Headcage" is a bit underwhelming as its melodic focus only highlights how strangely meek the track is, while "In the Middle" is a nice rebound featuring the vocal talents of Jonny Pierce of The Drums. I'm not a fan of his band, but he and Dear provide interesting foils for each other. The last two tracks are beatless nearly interstitial pieces, but "Around a Fountain" does conjure an intoxicating atmosphere.
