Review Summary: The Only Thing I Ever Wanted was more of this album. Or: Psapp, the great and strange indie-electric combination.
Almost flawless. Psapp the strange and wonderful, the strong art-pop influences can be heard with the opening and closing of doors, chiming clocks, crunching gravel and a litany of other foley sounds that some how meld into a light and lively alt-indie sound that I can only describe as blissful. Psapp has an inherent understanding of when to use their voice, and when no to. Which makes for a very short set of lyrics, and an entirely enjoyable experience. Being as eclectic as they are it's hard to pin them down, with instrumentals, and engineered sounds they make music so more melodic than some guitars. There is growth in this album, if one was to listen to "Cozy In The Rocket" The Grey's Anatomy Theme song Psapp's style is evident but the sound almost sounds safe by comparison to "The Only Thing I Ever Wanted". Psapp went with a more eccentric, louder sound, and came up with a more mature and strong sound.
For me, "King of You" is one of the most distinct tracks "Oh I didn't know you had feelings too" Speaks to wisdom that comes only out of self realization, developing a strong empathy is something everyone says they have or are working on, but Psapp starkly admits they have learned something, but still have learning to do. Amid a wild collection of electronica, vocals, and instrumental loops, one can discover something very real about humanity.
