Review Summary: Pretty Boy's swag no more.
The last two years for have been rough for Soulja Boy. His third album 'The Deandre Way' was a commercial flop, his younger brother died in a car crash, his older brother attempted to commit suicide, his clothing line went downhill, he was accused of cocaine usage and and he was still hated on by a majority of the hip hop world. With emotionally traumatizing problems like Soulja Boy has been met with through 2010 and 2011, You would think Soulja Boy would be able to write an album containing some sort of emotional aspect or to the leave the game forever, but don't let logic decieve you, this is Soulja Boy we are talking about.
See, Soulja Boy is either emotionally retarded, or a cyborg. Because even during the events of a dying family member and the near death of another one, Soulja Boy still only has one thing to talk about, how much money he has. Through 2011 he released several mixtapes to the public which were all based around one thing, money. These mixtapes were extremely irritating and featured no name rappers who can't be called upcoming. Now that 2012 has arrived and Soulja Boy is gearing up for a big year with a fourth album being released, the revival of his clothing line and a possible world tour, Soulja Boy still has the urge to plague the public with more mixtapes. His latest being '5013'.
Now, Soulja Boy can be viewed as optimistic in some ways, releasing a plethora of free music for his fans. But even die hard fans will start to find the constant low quality of these mixtapes annoying. '5013' is no different from the previous mixtapes and if anything it's worse. The production is horrible, the lyrics are cringe worthy, the beats suck, everything about this sucks and makes 'The Deandre Way' look like album of 2010.
The thing about this mixtape that makes other Soulja Boy releases look good is the pure ridicule of the albums lyrics. While ridicule was obviously present on other Soulja Boy releases, it was at least funny. The lyrics here are supposed to be the uprising of Soulja Boy's 2012, and when Soulja is yelping lyrics like 'Came out the ground like oil' it's almost easier to take 'Yahh Trick Yahh' more seriously.
So overall, there is nothing good about this mixtape at all. Everything about this is bad and makes the next few years for Soulja Boy look even worse then last few have been for him.
