Review Summary: Bleak and Dissonant, Grieved, you sly dogs.

Coming out of a new and vibrant scene in Stockholm, Grieved made waves with their debut EP “Ageing”, recently signed to the marvelous Anchors Aweigh Records; they’ve managed to blend truly remarkable vocals and relentless instrumentation with a true sludge/hardcore badass attitude.

The album starts off with lead single “Cursed Ideals”, a gritty and bleak guitar riff is strummed over in the beginning, then we are welcomed to vocalist Marcus Lundqvist and his great pitch, commanding and focused at all times he is a true gem and amongst some of the most talented singers, even more remarkable is the fact that the whole band is in average in their early 20s, showing an amazing sense of maturity regardless the songwriting and overall structure of each song.

Guitarist Tobias Larson and William Roos create a somber atmosphere, the distorted riffs complement each other perfectly, building a wall of sound that gives an uncomfortable feeling of anxiousness and desperation, much of that atmosphere is greatly enhanced by drummer Felix Källström’s relentless pounding on the skins.

Songs like “MMXII” show an even more aggressive side to Grieved, clocking at barely 2 minutes, the guitars feel crisp, the drumming is tight, never missing a single beat and the vocals are up to par with everything that goes around here at all times, the relentless passion and power this small leviathan manages to capture pretty much sums up the sound of the band, bleak and dissonant, Grieved, you sly dogs

I'm not much into this kind of music, but I may actually get the EP just to hear the whole thing. Good review.
