Review Summary: My Rating on that is 5 (for now), alongside with Shabazz Palaces and Cunninlynguists best album I've heard this year, "Grey Crow" for better life
When ninety percent of my heart this year was stolen by„Black Up“ by Shabazz Palaces, „Therapy at 3“ on the other hand stole the major piece of rest ten percent.
I've been a fan of Eligh since he realesed „Grey Crow“ in 2010. Grey Crow is definitely in my Top 5 all time LP's. Actualy I remember Eligh was my first touch with „core“ underground hip-hop scene. After that experience with indie hip-hop, I realized how pointless mainstream rap sounds in these days. The golden hip-hop era is gone. Guys or if you want groups like Tribe Called Quest, De La Souls, Digable Planets, Biggie, Tupac ended. In these days when you are watching MTV you can see niggas like Birdman, Lil Wayne, Trey Songzz, Chris Brown and other millionaires not musicians parasiting on human stupidity. If you wanna listen quality hip-hop or music in general you have to dig, and you have to dig really deep, maybe on „three kilometres and fifty-hundred metres“ under the „music surface“ there could be „burried“ guys like Eligh, the guys who create music for passion not for profit. Thanks for them....
Eligh is Californian MC/producer, member of Living Legends crew, and his flow is simply one of the best i've heard in my whole life, he is really fast on rhyming and in this case when I say fast I mean really fast, like Dwyane Wade in playoff games against „Celtics“. He sounds like white Tech N9ne but with better delivery in lyrics, no hate on Tech I like him as well .
The first time when I noticed on hiphopdx website that Eligh preparing LP with „Zion I“ producer „AMP Live“, I felt pretty much excited. Eligh is skilled MC and AMP Live is really young talented producer which creates hard electornic beats with heavy basses, noises an echos and other gadgets, his beats sounds great which confirms with first track on that LP called „First contact“. Heavy electronic/glitch but some kind of minimalistic sounding beat fits great as a „First Contact“ with that magnificent album and of course Eligh flow sounds exactlly the same like on Grey Crow which is awesome, that song reminds me day when I for a first time listened „Love ov my life“ one of the best song from „Grey Crow“ I had pretty much same feelings, I was really delighted.
There are so many great songs on that LP, like „Destination Unknown“ second lead single and probably the most aggresive sounding joint on album Eligh raps with his soulmate Grouch here I really enjoying that track, like the energy behind it but if you prefer some kind of „chillout“ songs you can skip directly to track called „Tattoo song“ over smooth sounding beat Eligh spits some verses about SURPRISE, yeah tattoos, actually that song has a nice directed videoclip, if you guys are fans of tattoos definitely check it out on youtube.
It's hard to choose best songs, almost all sound excellent. You can find wide range of songs structure on that LP, songs like „Ms.Meteor“ with singing vocals parts by Eligh and Steve Knight (lead Flipsyde member), „LA Dreamers“ with nice fitting hosts in that case „Busdriver“, beat on that song by the way sounds really dreamy, hypnotic I heard some oriental elements in that song which made it really unique, then tracks like „Ego Killer“ which sounds quite different but on that single track that disparity assigns to „Inspired Flight“ trip-hop duo who co-made that beat and maybe provided some vocals but I am not sure about it... and in the end songs like „What's in the name“ which is my favourite and it sounds more like really f****n cool freestyle than a studio version song for final album cut, I like a little improvisation in that good way.
This album came out also as an instrumental CD, well if you like electronic music, you guys could try it because the beats on it are super tight, AMP Live did a great job behind the boards, If KNO in the beggining of 2011 create a really hypnotic, dreamy experience with Oneirology and than Shabazz Palaces came out and totaly blew my mind away with abstract beats with high electornic, african and modern psychadelic music influence now AMP Live provides really intense electronic experience, his beats are definitely influenced by mostly UK garage music artists, genres like glitch and dubstep speaks through almost all 13 songs.
