Review Summary: If nautical nonsense be something you wish...

The Yellow Album represents more than just a compilation of tracks taken from one of the greatest, longest running and most successful TV shows to date - it also happens to be a thoroughly enjoyable album in its own right. Created around the program’s heyday it certainly carries a lot of nostalgic value and an inherent appeal to younger audiences, but as with the series itself there’s a lot to love regardless of which demographics you fall into. Featuring a slew of catchy and quotable ditties spanning a surprising variety of styles, The Yellow Album draws from the first four seasons and includes everything from ‘Sweet Victory’ to the theme tune. If you’ve never sung along to the ‘Campfire Song Song’ you’re either a liar or in desperate need of acquainting yourself with a certain square-shaped invertebrate. Whilst its ’05 release date precludes some of the classic numbers that would pop-up on future episodes and later appear on the superior Greatest Hits release, thirty minutes of mostly Tom Kenny and co. is doubtless enough for any fan, and the consistent brevity of each track ensures a great deal of ground is covered regardless. Far from essential but guaranteed to please, The Yellow Album is just as fun now as it ever was, so if you’re in the mood for reliving some formative years and bemoaning the woes of ‘Ripped Pants’…then drop this in a tape deck and flop like a fish.
