Review Summary: The musical equivalent of those deep thoughts you always have in the shower.
Chillwave is a genre I'm not especially knowledgeable in, I'm just starting to get into it, and I still confuse the genre with trip-hop (retard, I know). However, based solely on the cover art, I downloaded this very low hopes, and boy was I wrong. Ricky Eat Acid is, safe to say, pretty unknown. I was the one who added it to the sputnik database. Not much can be found on the artist, but I do know he's American. I don't find that fact bothersome, though. I like a little mystery.
I'm sure we all know those deep, deep thoughts you have in the shower, where you're just standing aimlessly under the water. It can be from anything, from what you're gonna do today, or the origins of the universe. Either way, they represent a deeper side of you. This album, is pretty much the equivalent. The ambiance of it all is amazing. Some nice little melodies are scattered throughout, notably the synth line in
Luvin' U . Listening to that the first time just took my breath away. Sure it's nothing special, but I really connected to it somehow. The eerie samples echoing throughout
Foxx and
Beautiful Guurls are a welcome addition.
The downsides to this album are few. The main points being the length (barely 20 minutes) and the piss-poor grammar that looks like it was typed by a facebook-addicted 13 year old girl. Of course, this might only apply to me, seeing as I am a grammar Nazi and it almost pains me to type the song title
Ur My Bby . With that aside, chillwave is not a genre for everyone. As the name suggests, its chill. If you're looking for something with intricate melodies and melodic interludes, chances are you won't find much to like. Granted, most chillwave is just minute and a half long melodic interludes with vocal samples, but I digress. What was my point again? Right. If you're not a fan of chillwave,
Haunt U Forever won't do much to change your mind. If you're looking for some nice chill music to get high to, to study to or just chill to, this should be your first choice.
