Review Summary: very catchy album that is brought down by the fact it's all been done before
Slimmy is a portuguese band that plays a blend electronic influenced rock/pop inspired by artists like Placebo, IAMX and Kings of Leon.
The first thing I will say about the album the album is that it's catchy as hell, there is no getting around that fact. Almost all the songs have a part that will stick to you, whether it's synthetizers on songs like "You Should Never Leave Me Before I Die" and "Set Me Of Fire", the catchy yet very simplistic riffs in "On My Own", and very good vocal perfomances displayed throughout the album, e.g: "Beatsound Loverboy".
The album as a very diverse sound, in a moment you are listening to a mostly bass driven songs like "Bloodshot Star", you space out for a second, then you come back you're listening to a more electronic ambience influenced song "Far From You".
Musicianship wise the band members do not bring anything new to the table, the riffs are the standard energy packed punk rock riffs, the bass can be heard throughout the album and most of the time it MAKES the song instead of just going with the drummer (which by the way isn't all that creative).
The vocals are very good, the vocalist as a weird accent/voice though and while that might throw people off, he is a very good singer.
Face it they did nothing new for the genre , yet they were able to make a very catchy album that is only brought down by the fact it's all been done before.
