As an innovation in sound is clearly a change of direction in what Distorted Memory did before. althoough there are a couple of hits the middle eastern sound don't add value to songs and less processed voices lead to a less dark and devilish feeling when you hear the songs.

A heavy middle eastern vibe is what separates Swallowing the Sun from other harsh ebm albums but even then, it lacks in all the other departments. This would be much better if the middle eastern-ness was toned down so there would be more focus on danceable arpeggios and beats.
