Review Summary: An emotional journey that ends with a sense of hope.

It's a given that when speaking of a band that others do not know the easiest thing to do is to compare them to a band that they do know. Well in this case Some Mistakes is the band that you do not know and Modern Life Is War is the band that you do (if you don't please return to melodic hardcore 101). The bands share the sound of melody and octave chord heavy melodic hardcore. Then again that could be said of any band in the genre to come after Witness. What is really notable is the passion that is displayed. Some Mistakes is easily one of the most emotional and meaningful bands to come out of melodic hardcore in recent years. This EP alone makes me want to put them on the same level as Killing the Dream and Ruiner. However, Some Mistakes isn't just another melodic hardcore band. They pull influences from post-metal (they have a Locust Star cover) and others that leak their way into the music and it isn't too uncommon to see them labeled screamo.

For anyone who has ever lived through a broken family knows the hardships of seeing siblings growing up to be like the parents that they despised, the bad memories that never seem to go away, and just trying to live out your own life while breaking the cycle at the same time. Most bands play a show like it's a routine but every time I've seen Some Mistakes I've seen Will put his heart into everything, always ending up on the floor full of exhaustion and a mix of emotions in him that he has been releasing. This is how truly passionate bands deal with their negativity, this is a psychological session for them. A helpless, drug addicted family isn't something to simply get over with, especially not the suicide of a loved brother. We've all made some mistakes ourselves but the message at the end is always to not let it get you down and to pull through it all. No matter what happens you always have the power within yourself to be better and to break that cycle that has haunted your life.

Album rules, especially the outro to "You Have Killed the Boy." The way it builds up into that big, loud, noisy collision of distortion and despair...simply awesome.

Damn, that line sort of makes me want to review this. That line's copyrighted now. MINE. lol

Or you can just get more people into them. I always say that they should be as known and popular as bands like Killing the Dream.
