Review Summary: The Primordial Booze is a combination of chiptune and black metal vocals. What may surprise most people is that it's actually amazing.
What we have here is a really unique album. Usually chiptune is "instrumental" but what Rainbowdragoneyes does is perfect the old school chiptune style and add his chanting clean vocals and black metal-esque shrieks and growls. The album is pretty short with just 6 songs and an intro, but it makes it up with being some of the best chiptune I have ever heard.
Every single song is just INSANELY catchy and will get stuck in your head after first listen. RDE has really spent a lot of time putting everything together, the effects, the bleeps and bloops and melodies are tremendously well used. The album starts with the intense "Creatures ov Deception" and the second I heard this song I was hooked. I thought "well, the rest of the album just can't be this good?" and I was wrong. Every song in the album is near perfectly composed in my opinion.
The chanty vocals are a bit weird but after you get used to them they work in the favor of the album. Many of the vocal lines are maybe a bit too similar, but it all seems to fit and the album ends before you get bored with the vocal style. The black metal vocals are well done, are not overly used and really give the music a great boost whenever it is needed. The lyrics are not very serious and add to the very fun feeling of the album. What do you think "Rape Castle" is about?
If you like chiptune, listen to this. If you don't, well, listen to it anyway and maybe it will make you a fan. Even though The Primordial Booze is a pretty quirky album at first, it's actually very, very accessible and is a great to way to introduce someone to chiptune.
There is only one flaw on this album: Why the hell is "The Replicator" so damn short? It starts with one of the catchiest melodies I've heard and then it just ends. Damnit. Anyways, I give this a 5 for "classic" because in my honest opinion it deserves the status of a chiptune classic. I love it, I have listened to it countless times and it still is as awesome as the first time.
