Review Summary: The perfect spooky death metal album for your Halloween playlist
If you’ve been craving some death metal that indulges in a spooky occult aesthetic, allow me to point you towards the sole full-length release from Mexico’s Tenebrarum, titled
Alta Magia. There’s no shortage of furious riffage to be found here, varying from swirling trems to chunky rhythms with a cavernous production job that helps to provide a dank and murky atmosphere.
What really makes the album stand out though if the heavy use of dungeon synth-esque keys, featured on almost every track and further enhancing the occult atmosphere on display. In fact, the two tracks “Lilith” and “The Evocation” are entirely dungeon synth with no metal to be found, serving as spooky interludes to break up the hail of riffs on the surrounding tracks. Think of it as stopping by a witch’s hut to buy some healing potions before going back out into the haunted forest to slay another round of zombies and werewolves.
Anyway yea this is good plz jam
