Holy effing shite. The absolute bleakest and darkest CoL record ever. First two CoL albums + Amenra pre Mass V + crass prod. The EP is very impressive for a first release, the intro already sounds pretty much like their later records, the riffs are soul-crushing, vocals are excellent albeit quite lost in the mix, and they even already use touches of organ (I think?) on the first track, and a didgeridoo (?) on the second one. First track was my fave but honestly both are jams. The only less mature bit is the occasional bleep bloopy electronic sounds here and there on the first track, but other than that it sound like a full blown record really. If you enjoy CoL's rawer, earlier sound, or if you like stuff like Amenra, do not sleep on this!.3.8

Too short to rate a huge amount higher, Cult of Luna's self-titled EP is a strong introduction to the band's earlier, heavy-as-lead brand of post-metal. The incensed, hardcore-influenced roars are already there, and, particularly for a debut 2-track, both tracks are really well written and progress nicely. And hell, I even think there's a didgeridoo at the start of The Art of Self-Extermination, so that's gotta be worth something.

Take their first two albums, put in a rawer production, and there you go with 12 minutes of heavy sludgy riff. And even before their first album, they display this horrible Xbox 360 game-style artwork for the first time. One hell of an introduction, but make sure to listen to the OG version on youtube and not the polished remaster on Spotify.

This was released exclusively as a 7" vinyl in 2002, but was reissued on digital platforms on 2013 under the title "S/T". The songs are somewhat faster than on the debut album, but also drawing closer to the more chaotic mood of The Beyond. This is where CoL started realizing their true potential.
