With the release of Sacrifice, Gary Numan began to explore much darker music and themes, reinventing his sound after moving from the 'machine' phase (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle, Telekon) and less focused efforts from the early Numa releases (Berserker, The Fury, and Machine and Soul). I believe Sacrifice began to pave the way to a resurgence in interest in Numan's back catalog and opened his material to a new audience.
