Review Summary: Among the many things that this band borrows from Brand New is the quality of their songs.

Moody post-hardcore. Check. Moody pop-punk. Check. Moody slower songs that rely on dynamic changes. Check. Seahaven’s Ghost EP is essentially a child of everything Brand New has ever written. However, for an album that should feel derivative, they play it off as surprisingly organic. It helps that their singer, Kyle Soto, easily rivals Jesse Lacey’s earnest delivery of dark lyrics and that the songwriting is consistently good throughout the album. Granted, a few of these songs outshine the others. The first two songs, "Plague" and "Birds", are the heaviest songs on the album and also two of the strongest. The other highlight of the album is the accessible "Love", a pop-punk song that ties together the albums themes of family and religion. Unfortunately, "Head in the Sand", while not a bad song, serves as a fairly weak closer for the album, coming nowhere near the emotional heights that the album reaches elsewhere. That misstep aside, for a first release from a young band, the Ghost EP is pretty damn impressive and proves that Seahaven is worth keeping an eye on in the future.

This review is super short, and doesn't really explain what the ep or band sound like other than that they have a strong brand new influence, which I actually don't hear while listening to it.

I don't really feel the brand new reference, and your review is too short, you should expand your reasoning more.

EP absolutely rules. These guys just got signed, so I cant wait for what they'll do on a full length.

I picked up the Brand New influences. I'm really liking it. It's like what'd happen if Brand New had a little tinge of blues to their style.

Very cool EP, been listening to it all day. Prefer the darker, moodier stuff, but really enjoying the lyrics.

Pretty boring but some good songs. I expected this to be bad after hearing love... not keen on that

track at all.

Not a bad effort. Hopefully the debut isn't nearly as bad as it has been suggested.
