Review Summary: Overall this was a great album and I would gladly buy it for twenty bucks but because of it's weak ending I can't give this cd a five.
I think that it's cool for Iron Maiden to release a greatest hits cd since they have so many albums and so many cool songs. But I think this cd shouldn't have included the two live songs . O.K enough stalling I'm gonna write the review for each song now.
The Number of the Beast- I think the way the made the song the first on the cd was genius Number of the Beast Best of the Beast perfect. When I first heard the song I thought the beginning was going to be some wierd satanist crap but the you hear the guitar and the great singing and you realize this songs kicka**.
Can I Play With Madness- I don't really like this song because there are no really great guitar riffs or solos for Bruce to show off his great vocals. It's O.K. but should not be on a greatest hits cd for such a great metal band.
Fear Of The Dark- This song starts out with a great guitar riff and then goes into a kind of soft song but then it goes back to it's hard beginning. lt is a classic and has every right to be on this best of cd. For being live this song sounds very good but it could have been better if it went through a studio.
Run To The Hills- This is the Iron Maiden song everyone knows and for good reason. The chorus is great the guitars and drums melt perfectly into a 4 minute long classic. The guitar solo about 2 minutes in is great followed by the bellow of sing Bruce Dickinson right back to the chorus this is my second favorite song on the album partially because I'm a drummer myself.
Bring Your Daughter..... To The Slaughter- The opening guitar slide is great for this song but after that the song just kind of loses it's hard coreness I like the how the singer can talk in the song but still keep it good.
The Evil That Men Do- Starts out with a great riff then goes into the fast drumming with 16th notes and the double bass drum. I feel that Bruce could have been a little more creative vocally but other then that this is a good song.
Aces High- The twenty-five second intro kind of threw me off but the raw vocals and guitar threw right back in. For me personally this is one of the songs that tied for first on this album becasue of the great guitar about two and a half minutes in.
Be Quick Or Be Dead- The beginning drums, guitar, and vocals told me from the second I heard it that this is a kickass song. The screams of Bruce Dickinson fit perfectly into this song for me. That's why this is one of the songs that tied for first.
2 Minutes To Midnight- I like the way this song starts out but when Bruce sings "2 minutes to miiiiiiidnight" that's what really brought me into this song and that's why it was the last song that tied for first. The solo a little under three minutes in also made me realize this is the best song on the record so this one beats BQOBD and Aces High by just a little bit.
Man On The Edge- I really like the beginning of this song because it's misleading I'm expecting to hear a softer song but then the hard vocals, guitar, and drums make me realize how stupid I was. Expecting a soft song from Iron Maiden.
Virus- This was one of those six out of ten songs. the beginning was way to long and the drums are wayyyy overplayed .
Running Free- This was the other live song on the album. The beginning was weird because it sounded kinda funky or something and then there are no really great standout parts.
Wasted Years- I love how the guitarist played one string really fast at the beginning of this song other than that this song it typical great Iron Maiden material.
The Clairvoyant- The use of marakas in the intro was strange to me but overall this song was O.K the vocals by Bruce were good and so were the guitars.
The Trooper- This is the other Iron Maiden song everyone knows I think the guitars in the intro are great. I like the oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh that Bruce and the guitarists put in but other that that the song is great.
Hallowed Be Thy Name- The inrto was standard and this song isn't as hard as the end of a Metal cd should be I'm suprised they didn't put The Wickerman on this cd or wrathchild but overall this cd was great.
