CIV were an interesting hardcore band that came out of the late 80's New York youth-crew scene. Comprising members of Youth of Today, Judge and all of the Gorilla Biscuits extremely interesting members (creative force and guitarist, Walter, and vocalist and namesake of the band, Civ) they crafted some cool, light hearted heardcore songs. The music is fairly standard and simple hardcore, but with such an up-beat drummer and guitarists who play clean as all hell. The vocals are clearly raging and passionate, but they are at the very low end of the spectrum in terms of yells, or whatever. The lyrics are pretty standard lyrics about bettering yourself and what not. They are pretty sincere. As these people were all in straight-edge bands before straight-edge was horrible and an excuse for violence these people actually mean what they say. If you like this band listen to The Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Judge and Quicksand. The first three are all standard NY straight-edge posi-core, but are great. The final is where guitarist Walter shined in a more post-hardcore enviroment. This band's second album is mediocore/bad
