Strange, I bet when you click on this review and see my username then you will gasp in amazement that I listen to this kind of thing. True though that I don"t own this and I didn"t even know who she was a month ago but it was all down to my good old Aunt why the hell I even listened to this album. My Aunt is not boring at all, in fact she"s quite cool for a 40 year old but during the late 70s she was a major punk. She enjoyed The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Johnny Thunder and The Ramones back then but she"s kind of changed now, she likes Nirvana, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. so I had to trust her right?

It seems Patti has changed her way of thinking; this is a more pop than rock record and it is ultimately really catchy. Maybe it has to do with the success of Because the Night which the moment you listen to it then you recognise it. How do you recognise it though? Maybe it was because it"s been sampled the hell out of for different songs. This is Patti"s third release after the famous Horses and Radio Ethiopia and while it still contains some catchy punky songs, it has a huge pop influence with it. It was her most commercially successful album and it is no surprise with the jingle jangle happiness of some songs.

Patti was at the height of her game during the punk movement and she was put in with them so basically she is the female of punk and no wonder. Easter is full of catchy no nonsense songs and has no stupid filler with the exception of Babelogue which is a reference to when she use to read poetry. It seems to have a 70s hard rock feel and it is totally different but it is still our Patti. The lyrics are amazing and sometimes quite hard to analyse as it is like reading straight out of a poetry book. She"s sings like she"s an evil possessed woman but she still has a great voice which sadly goes off key sometimes. The piano during some of the songs is great as well and they are usually very melodic and a main part of the song than vamp. Every track here is very creative and bursting with ideas but it"ll never hold up against Horses but one might be destined to think that Easter is a tighter album overall while Horses was just some awesome dirty rock "n roll.

It"s hard to pick one beloved track but Rock "N Roll ****** attracted my attention. It is a true rock song and on first listen it might seem like guy singing but trust me, it"s Patti. A really angry pissed off Patti but it"s still her. It is a fast forward punk rock song. "Baby was a black sheep, baby was a whore" screeches the enthusiastic front woman. Marilyn Manson covered this for his Smells like Children album which was pretty controversial for him. The song has this weird noise solo until fade out. Who couldn"t recognise Because the Night? It starts with a swaying piano melody. It is a beautiful ballad with the most famous line, "Because the night, belongs to lovers, because the night, belongs to us" and unexpectedly a cool guitar solo comes in. It"s a great song and it certainly is a landmark in Patti"s discography. Buy this album is you are into 70s punk rock with slight hints of pop. Avoid this album if you are into metal or something but I bet if you listened to this then you"d find something you"d like about it. It ain"t that hard. Patti is a very creative singer and she can reach notes perfectly so this is recommended

This doesn't come close to being as good as Horses yet it's still a good album. I really like 'Ghost Dance' and 'Rock n Roll n*****.' Great review to, it was short yet detailed.

Pretty much my take on things. I don't like it so much as you or Cathedral, but Patti Smith made some good albums, and this is one of her better efforts. Her whole anti-folk sort of sound was great.

Sr. Thrash Metal listens to Patti Smith? Well, there's at least one female solo artist in every collection. I have KT Tunstall.

Nice job.

Nice review. A really good album too. Patti Smith is one of my favorites from the proto-punk/early punk eras. I don't like this album as much as Horses or even her latest Trampin', but it's still excellent.

This is a bit of a disappointment after 'Horses' but it's still fucking great. I mean it is Patti Smith after all.

little bit of a letdown. it lacks the energy of horses and radio ethiopia. the first two songs and easter are all kinda tame compared to the ecstacy that is because the night and rock and roll nigger

Wave doesn't have a review, so I'm mentioning this here:

Wow Wave is a bottom heavy album. The best 3 songs are all in the 2nd half
