0.0 | Super Grover | December 11th 10 | The Vinyls seem to be clinging to a sense of optimism through their debut Extended Play. The opening track is the most obvious representation of this, with its infectious chorus hook of “I’m not alone in this American dream,” but vocalist Drew Duddy’s commentaries are still effective when pointed outwards—the passionate explosion of “Loner” could serve equally well gazing introspectively as it could reflecting on ex-lovers. No matter the topic, however, the band seems determined to keep their head above water at all costs. Never does this persistence seem forced; The Vinyls stay fluid throughout the entirety of the EP, covering ground from a mellower Gaslight to a more muscular Steel Strain. Easy to listen to and one of the year's more pleasant surprises.
