Release Date: 2010 | Tracklist

Skrillex's debut EP showcases his signature sound and a fresh outlook on dubstep music form an American perspective. Starting immediately with the chanting of Skrillex renouncing his name this track is quite slow and doesn't do much to send you into a dancing frenzy and loses your attention after the 3 minute mark. However Weekends is the catchy dubstep song that many artists have failed to produce, Sirah's simplistic lyrics are catchy cheesy obviously and bass drop fits perfectly without taking itself seriously this alongside the house-like drums is set to be a head bobbler.

***ing Die is my favorite track of this EP this time however skrillex stays to the traditional drop'n'pick up dubstep although what defines this track is Skrillex's signature chopped up vocals smoothly leading up to his angsty elastic bass wobble and the brief violin interlude brings a slightly compact ,tightened to the track. Cooper's electro -house remix of ***ing die is a winner swiftly moving though all parts of the track and converting into a light-hear ted dance number. Although the loses it's groove after 3:40. Do Da Oliphant however is a hard-hitting 4x4 dance track with the re-introduction of chopped vocals (sirah) and it's octave jumping and timing does not overstay it's welcome. With you Friends is the feel-good track we've all heard but never tire of and Skrillex dosen't fail here with his vocal melodies and the right amount of keyboard riffiage keeps you elevated throughout the whole track.

In conclusion this is not the average dubstep release but howver does not stray very far it only with the incision of some musical proficiency and understanding of eletronic music does Skrillex manage to make his mark. But we also see that Skrillex is not going anywhere outside of the dancefloor, this ep does foreshadow some lapse in Skrillex's creativity as i've exprienced with his latest releases.

There is a reason Skrillex has eight Grammys, and this EP is not it....

In conclusion this is not the average dubstep release

With a rating of 2.5 it would appear so.

"However Weekends is the catchy dubstep song that many artists have failed to produce"

Probably because it isn't remotely dubstep?
