Not sure why there's a 'Live' here...boring, repetitive, even a quality cover of Kiss' "War Machine" can't save this album from mediocrity.

Maximum Violence represents the last release by Six Feet Under really worth anything. Fears that fans may have had of a dip in quality after the departure of Allen West are temporarily allayed by a strong debut from guitarist Steve Swanson. Swanson's arrival gives the band a more more straight up aggressive edge in place of the Obit sludge of West. This results in SFU's most energetic release to date. Barnes' voice is already going south quickly, but is reinforced by the power that the rest of the band is putting out. Hardly an essential disc, but if you're new to SFU, there are much worse starting points.
