2.5 average | cacciamani10 | September 1st 10 | I was disappointed by The Catalyst's kind of... I don't know? Electronic sound? I mean it was a good song, but I was slightly disappointed. I'll consider a better rating when the full version comes out.

4.0 excellent | FCY | August 31st 10 | Linkin Park mix Meteora and Minutes to Midnight with beats from Beck and guitar play from Soundgarden, preparing to release the most out of the ordinary, experimental, yet extremely focused concept album of the year. Mike Shinoda's lead singer role, featuring hardcore reggae-style rapping and soft singing, together with Bennington's backing vocals, consisting of experimental rapping and saddistic screaming on "Blackout" and melodramatic soft undertones, are the definite highlights of the record. Instrumentals are rather dancy, much more diverse and electronica influenced as there are no usual song structures present throughout the album, the listener hardly being able to notice a chorus or a verse. While the obvious absence of heavy guitars is somewhat disturbing, the solo in "Iredescent" should be a dull lift-up. Since I've had the opportunity to listen to this album only once at a pre-listening event, the album is hard to judge. The record requires more than one listen to fully absorb Linkin Park's new approach, so I'll save my final thoughts for a review next week.
