Review Summary: If you want 18:32 of chugging, then this is for you.

Revelations is the 2010 EP from Metalcore band Get Up Texas, and contains a lot, and I mean A LOT, of chugging guitar. Although the whole album is basically just one big breakdown, I think it's quite a good album.

It starts off a 1 minute long breakdown, entitled 'Intro'. The guitar riff that it begins with, although not original, is well executed and melodic. After that it's just a breakdown, with no tone changes and speed changes, just the same couple of open notes for 1 minute, finally ending with a long note that leads right into the next song, 'Dream of a King'. The screams are good, but the chugging guitar at the start gets a bit repetitive. I admit that the first time I listened to this song, I turned it off after about a minute because my ears couldn't deal with how repetitive that chugging guitar was. However, I listened to it a second time, trying to get past that and discovered a really great breakdown, with no screaming over the top for once.

One big downfall that this band has is the clean vocals, which do not sound good. They're sort of in between "Dude, you just cannot sing" and "You're okay, I guess." The screaming is definitely the highlight for me, a long with the breakdowns in 'Dream of a King', 'Bonesaw McGraw' and 'Mothers'. The latter 2 songs are basically the same as the previous 2, and the 2 after that, which are entitled 'Archetype' and 'Revelations'. A breakdown intro, screaming vocals over the top of the same chugging guitar, then bad clean vocals, then more chugging and screaming.

The song 'Mothers' has a sort of Southern breakdown near the end, which I really enjoyed, even though it doesn't fit in with the rest of the song.

Overall, I really liked the EP, and would recommend it, but it does have it's low points, like any album. If the clean vocals were better, and they alternated between chugging guitar and riffs more often then it would probably be a 4.5, maybe even a 5.
