Review Summary: A worthy half hour of no frills death metal.

Indwelling is a short-lived death metal band who committed just 30 minutes of original material to tape, also known as the album And My Eye Shall Weep. Indwelling plays a fast-paced and to-the-point brand of death metal that is liable to break frenetically into blast beats at any moment. The band focused most of their creative energy on their grooving riff assault, and, on a few occasions, some atmosphere.

As a three piece outfit, Indwelling is a lean-mean death metalling machine. Their technical approach fits the length of this record very well, allowing riffs and ideas to materialize and disappear within the confines of three minute songs. While the messy guitar sound and guttural delivery do their job well, the most interesting part of the production job is the drumming. The band doesn't venture into all out drum solos, but it’s hard to deny their prominence on tracks such as ‘Through My Weakness’.

Indwelling silence their fury at a few strategic points during the album. First with the instrumental march of ‘Whited Sepulcure,’ and the contemplative closer ‘In Your Protection’. Fans of their primary approach would be advised to try the all encompassing opener ‘Hymn’. Other highlights are scattered throughout the remaining tracks, including the screeching apex of the title track, and the finale of 'The Breath of He Who Kills'.

While Indwelling certainly don’t lack enthusiasm, And My Eye Shall Weep is still singular enough in its vision that listeners who don’t enjoy the chaos reign of OSDM will likely find it none so memorable. However, those intrigued by a no-frills and somewhat technical approach to a half an hour’s worth of death metal should be satisfied by the material here.
