Having ever-so-slightly drifted away from their Manchester influenced ‘brit pop’ styling of their early work, in favour of a more direct and straight forward guitar sound, The Bluetones self-titled fifth album is a delightful education on beautifully crafted indie pop songs. Whilst never reaching the heights set with their debut album ‘Expecting To Fly’ there is nothing you can’t admire about an album of high quality craftsmanship brought together by years of touring and writing. The stomping and scoffing album highlight ‘My Neighbour’s House’ wouldn’t seem out of place in a brit-pop compilation album from 10 years prior while ‘Hope and Jump’ and ‘Thank You, Not Today’ are songs which may perhaps seem insignificant but are songs which make you smile and sing along, if nothing more.

As any Bluetones fan would probably expect, the album lacks the originality to take the band back to a level which they found themselves in the mid 90's, but the songs sound so comfortable and pleasant, they just would not sound better any other way.
