"I Guess It Was Nowhere" may very well be the best metalcore album ever produced for my preference. The progressive nature already makes it a cut above the rest, and the work done here is simple astounding.rThe inspiration is quite apparent, as riffs will reminisce of Invent Animate quite a bit, and "The Dark Pool" era Thornhill, along with some vocals, too. But Above, Below have managed to find their whole-y unique riffing style within this very over saturated subgenre. Their utilisation of thall bends, along with the way they approach their grooves exude their unique flare.rAlong with this, band manages to effortlessly create one of the greatest album experiences of all of metalcore's existence. The most notable names in 2010s era progressive metalcore often shared a similar flaw. The album experience lacked that sense of being taken on a narrative arc. They would often rinse and repeat their ideas in abundance. Ten songs in a row of very similar sounding songs. They had no variety to speak of. Well, wow does "Nowhere" have this variety in spades and then some.rThe flow can be very reminiscent of Loathe's "I Let It In And It Took Everything" in particular. The album isn't afraid to slow down, let sections breathe, envelope the listener in effervescent atmosphere. It's the most progressive progressive metalcore album ever produced. Unparalleled achievement.
