Dean DeLeo's signature style is deeply rooted in the 70s classic rock. Tracks like 'Long Way Down' and 'Drowning Out The Sun' have a clear-cut Jimmy Page tone in them. But given the man's background, there are a couple of powerhouses here such as 'Spit It Out' with its piercing riffage and the opening 'Paper Over The Cracks' with its STP flair. Former bandmate Eric Kretz sits on the drums for 'Serenade', DeLeos's son Rocco sits on the stool for 'Drowning Out The Sun', 'Willow Mae' and 'Spit It Out', while Brian Tichy (ex-Whitesnake, Billy Idol) records the rest of the drums. Vocals were done by British singer/songwriter Pete Shoulder. While Dean is a great guitarist and lays down some excellent guitart work here and there, this project left me with mixed feelings. It certainly has a clear direction but not the one I was looking for. Although there some nice arrangements, tracks lack energy, hunger and punchiness - characteristics I was expecting to hear from the former STP guitarist's work. Tony recommends: "Paper Over The Cracks", "Can of Worms", "Spit It Out".
