Review Summary: Less a late night, back alley stroll or a drugged out rave, Buzz McCoy and Groovie Mann take more inspiration this time from 50’s rock’n’roll to create a perfect soundtrack to a 50’s beach party B-movie.

Right when you see the cover of the album you expect something different from the band’s 5th album, “Hit & Run Holiday”. Less a late night, back alley stroll or a drugged out rave, Buzz McCoy and Groovie Mann take more inspiration this time from 50’s rock’n’roll to create a perfect soundtrack to a 50’s beach party B-movie.

They strip away most of the electronics, relying more on horns sections and piano grooves that shape most of the hard partying “Glamour Is A Rocky Road”, “Hot Blood Risin’” and “Babylon Drifter”. Even rockers like “Chemical Cop-Out” and the darker “Portrait Of The Damned” fit the album’s mood with all those backing them up.

Beside these, the album offers a wide range of styles (while still keeping the coolness and TKK’s trademark). There are hand clapping sing-alongs like “Apollo 69”, the lounge “Doris Love Club” or the rock’n’roll “Hottest Party In Town”. They even get all James Bond-ish on songs like “Mission: Stardust”, “Mr. Eleganza” and “Hit & Run Holiday”.

This album has some gems like the high octane “Universal Luxury” (with some real life sincere woman words “Elemental fool, baby give it to me/I want it now/Shower me in universal luxury”), the “Skin-flicks, lipstick” kitsch of “Glamour Is A Rocky Road”, the slick title track and the chill out instrumental closer “Last Ride Out”.

An easier listening, this record has a lighter nature thus making My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult more fun than ever.

This album is actually really good. I didn't like it on first listen, but it gets better like most TKK pm subsequent listens.
