| 3.5 great | Essence | July 16th 25 | im probably the only person on this site who still cares about benn and what he's up to. this album is a lot more scatterbrained (by benn's own admission) than past works and feels a bit more like a collection of ideas rather than a thematically consistent work, which i suppose you could call his hallmark. what it loses in cohesiveness it makes up for in expressiveness, as despite the grief-stricken overtones, this also shows jordan at some of his most sparkling and joyous, and that joy carries the record through its disjointedness to present an overall strong package
