| 4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | May 10th 25 | Rowdy and aggressive noisy post hardcore/rock from Norway that truly steamrolls the listener in the stretch between 'Schafer' and 'Hvilke splinter' as Honningbarna deliver one of the better punk records of 2025 thus far. 'MP5' is on the more aggressive side with a steady midtempo bass/drum underbelly with an impressive mix of dissonant electronics, guitar and screamed/shouted vocals in the foreground, an impressive display of aggression without a super fast tempo. 'Hvilke splinter' is another great track that does jack the tempo up and delivers an amazing verse to chorus transition with borderline anthemic vocals in the chorus. Honningbarna isn't all loud and noisy here with a 'Ditt hjertes Hizbollah' calming things down just a bit and adding more melody and sung vocals for one of the best tracks in the second half of the album. Had never heard of this band until this year and hoping they come over the US sometime as their blend of hardcore energy and attention to detail instrumentally puts them in a somewhat unique space. Kind of makes me think this is where The Armed were headed before they changed things up so drastically.

| 4.5 superb | If being sexy is a crime, Im under arrest for selling ketamine to 5th graders | March 13th 25 | Bands like The Armed, Model/Actriz, and Idles have always felt like unfulfilled potential to me. While some of their songs are commendable, and certain moments within those tracks are even exceptional, their overall musical output hasn't resonated with me as much as one might expect. Even when Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü fame urged me to listen to Ultrapop during an interview, it failed to captivate me. These bands' music often seemed like a brilliant array of new colors that no one had successfully used to create compelling artwork.rThat is, until now. It may seem premature to make such a bold statement about Honningbarna's "Soft Spot," given that I only began listening to this album yesterday, but the evidence is undeniable: it works. Every aspect of it works. The music is noisy, extreme, and infectious, burrowing into your mind and refusing to leave. It's an exhilarating experience. Whether you choose to label it as hyper-post-hardcore or not, it stands as the most innovative punk music I've encountered in years.
