Review Summary: TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR!
Ambient techno is a genre that hits all the right spots for me. The slow trance inducing beats, the hypnotic repetitiveness that takes you to another place entirely and the melodic soundscapes that tend to get stuck in the listener’s head long after the album is over. Architectural is a Spanish producer that has been putting out music since the early 2010s but it wasn’t until this past week that I came across his catalogue.
Good Night, Whatever That Is is his newest album and it's one of the most lush, angelic experiences of 2025 so far.
Whereas a lot of ambient techno (that I’ve come across at least) tends to drift towards more aquatic soundscapes and even stuff that ends up sounding really dreary in the best ways possible, Architectural has instead crafted an album that is more upbeat and “dreamlike” than anything I’ve heard in the genre before. In fact, the album tends to drift heavily into ambient house and IDM territory with the fast paced rhythms and soothing tones of each genre present throughout.
Good Night, Whatever That Is has an almost cloud rap-esque atmosphere with the drug-inducing and carefree happiness of each track really shining through at all times giving the entire run time an upbeat pep in its step.
Architectural really lets all of his influences shine through in such a respectable way. Instead of going down the path that a lot of artists in this genre tend to go down, Architectural opts to take a shinier, less melancholic sounding approach and
Good Night, Whatever That Is came out all the more better for it. If you’d like a little bit of a twinkly aspect to your ambient techno, you can’t go wrong with this album right here.
