Review Summary: So Many Ways add to the pop scene in Chicago music.

So Many Ways add to the pop scene in Chicago music.
I was updating the website when my friend told me I should look into a band called So Many Ways. I went to their MySpace, and saw the typical site, nothing special. But then I saw something that altered the way I think of them. Their first release REAL TALK EP, is available for FREE. I have always been partial to bands that do this. Why charge money for 4 songs? Maybe for people who want the physical copy or collectors, etc.. Plus who’s the music for? The Kids, ME. Smart move by So Many Ways, hopefully they also price there full debut album for $9.99.
The EP Starts with “Time Is An Invention Of Man” and within the first 10 seconds you completely understand what So Many Ways is about. The chorus hooks you in, and the lead singer’s voice is smooth and enjoyable to hear. There is some screaming which I think doesn’t feel right in this song. But it is a EP so I like to hear different things. Overall this might be considered filler on a normal album but for an EP I like it. Next is “Let's Turn Off These Dirty Lights And...” One thing wrong with the EP is the order; This song should have opened the record. The drums make you wants to get out your rockband sticks and air drum the hell out of them. The song itself flows well, but it feels unfinished like it missing something. With the opening being so catchy the rest of the song bores me. When it should be making me listen. “I Tore Kristen A New Moon” is freaking awesome, and yes it is about Twilight. 30 seconds in the chorus hits and knocks you out. Being about twilight doesn’t do any bad? How could it? The best thing that could happen is That So Many Ways is put on the Eclipse soundtrack. If that happen somebody at So Many Ways better send me a thank you card. This song could be related to a couple in high school so if twilight is a problem for you think about something else. The last song is “Parking Lot Special” Whoa! Who doesn’t love a good placed Whoa?
We won’t live forever. You Want a song about inspiriting, Only under on stipulation, if you feel the words were singing, sing them back.
This song is awesome, ends the EP nicely. The Chants near the end, the sudden STOP of sound! And you cry because the EP is over Then BOOM It keeps going. The Screaming guttural sounds enter. Clapping and cheers all around, the EP ends.

Now, I’m only 16 so I don’t believe for one second that So Many Ways will ever care about this review. But since this type of music is aimed at me, and I like it, well that should help them. I do have a little problem with the screaming because it doesn’t feel right in the EP. It sounds like early fall out boy, but they did it better. That’s about the only beef I have. I know that So Many Ways is having lineup issues but what I would love to see is So Many Ways tour with Chicago’s The Frantic. That would be awesome. So Many Ways have the opportunity to have great success, if they stay in Chicago. Because they don’t sound like The Lawrence Arms, The Arrivals, Horace Pinker or other Chicago pop-like bands. Just don’t get mainstream and leave us So Many Ways.

I agree that the screamed vocals are shit. Otherwise, this is a decent album.
