| 3.0 good | Antonius | April 22nd 25 | As with their previous work, The Darkness approach their latest release with the aim of having a good time. Opener 'Rock and Roll Party Cowboy' sets the tone with the follow-up 'I Hate Myself' - an ode to self-loathing - borrowing a Status Quo vibe. From AC/DC's boogie 'Mortal Dread' to the Beatles-via-Queen bounce of 'The Longest Kiss', the majority of the tracks have the typical energy and bounce the Britons always strived for. On the other hand, 'The Battle for Gadget Land' is a hilarious track with the appropriate levels of tongue-in-cheek lyricism. Dreams on Toast contains also some scattered and unexpected diversions into country ('Cold Hearted Woman', 'Hot On My Tail') while the cinematic balladry of 'Weekend In Rome' may raise some eyebrows amongst diehard fans. Tony recommends: "Mortal Dread", "I Hate Myself", "Don't Need Sunshine", "Rock and Roll Party Cowboy"

| 3.0 good | cageofman | March 31st 25 | Its probably really a 2.5 but being one of my real favourite bands i'm giving them a little
extra. Some cool tunes but too many on here that really, end of the day, are a little "take it or
leave it" in truth. I really wish 'the Wishing Well' had been on the album proper, in place of a
couple of the weak tunes (hot on my tail or cold hearted women) it would improve the album rating
for mine if that had been on there.
