4.0 excellent | juiceviaorange | September 21st 24 | This sounds really good. It's less bombastic than any of the prior Sunset Rubdown albums,
which makes sense. Both the lack of their lead guitarist coupled with Spencer's advanced
songwriting and taste are responsible for this more stripped back approach. The melodies
here, however, are tighter than they've been for the better part of Spencer's latest solo
releases. There are grooves here and his synths sound better here than almost any other
project. It's a very grounded, mature album that has twists and turns while just mostly
being really pretty, thought-provoking indie music.
