2.5 average | Nicksput | April 24th 21 | Time will Reveal was ATL's 4th album, and the first released since their friend and former label head Eazy-E passed away. While he's only mentioned a few times, there's no question he missed. Former N.W.A. member MC Ren also appears on the mellow banger "Killaz in the Park". Elsewhere, Above the Law seem deflated, resigned to thinking small and staying in the hood to hustle despite having sold plenty of records. The social commentary that helped make this group unique is completely gone on TWR, replaced by gangsta/pimpin'. The flows and lyrics (particularly Big Hutch), are usually on the safe side, and with the semi-weak lyrical content, there's not much to quote on here. Hutch's beats (he did almost the entire album) are another story, and this might be the best soundscape the group has had to rap over. There varieties of strings, horns, keys, piano and plenty of live guitar/bass to be heard all over the record. It's sort of a shame, because the songwriting seems to be an afterthought. Now, if you are big Kokane fan, you might like this record more, but his George Clinton inspired singing voice is often more distracting to listen to than pleasing imo. So Time Will Reveal is basically a generic gangsta record with incredibly lush production.
