Testament - Practice What You Preach

Line Up:
Chuck Billy - Vocals
Alex Skolnick - Lead Guitar
Eric Peterson - Rhythm Guitar
Louie Clemente - Drums
Greg Christian - Bass

Produced, Recorded and Mixed by Alex Perialas

Practice What You Preach (4.54)
Great opening track it's not as fast and as thrashy as the older stuff but its still very good and Skolnick's solo is one of his best in the whole time he was with Testament. This is one of Testament most well known songs and with the great riffs and powerful vocals it deserves to be 5/5.

Perilous Nation (5.50)
Nice bass intro from Christian then the drums crash in and the guitars then join in it is a very good intro. I think Chuck sings very well on this song and the chorus is catchy and this is another great Testament song. Another absolutely amazing solo from Alex this guy defiantly has some talent. One of my favorite Testament songs because of the catchy chorus, the intro build up and the solo. 5/5

Envy Life (4.16)
Compared to the first 2 tracks on the album this doesn't quite stand up to them. It starts with a growl from chuck and it starts off alright but after a while I got a bit fed up of this song and at 2.13 there is a bit that really annoys me now because I don't like it where chuck starts singing "come on down to the house of pain." I think that kind of lets down the song and the solo isn't really much for how good alex is either. 3/5

Time Is Coming (5.26)
This really is a brilliant song and I am surprised not to see it on any best of albums Testament have released. It starts off with Alex's superb guitar playing and is defiantly a song to start a pit too. Time is Coming has another chorus that once you hear you probably wont be able to get it out of your head yet again Chuck's vocals are very powerful and loud but it seems to suit this song well. Testament seemed to have really thought about the lyrics to "The man I most resent you might know him through the government he'll tax our lives the moneys spent he's just the president". Alex really cant do wrong on this album his solos and riffs are just class every time. 5/5

Blessed In Contempt (4.12)
Heavy from the start and probably the most thrash song on the album. The drums play a big part in this song and seem to be louder than on other songs previously. A giant shred from Alex proving that he is just a guitar god. I would give this 5/5 but for some reason it just seemed to be lacking something and I cant quite think of what but still a great song 4/5

Greenhouse Effect (4.52)
This song is quite unique for the thrash scene because not many bands have written a song for the environment. Testament have done a good job with this song and the lyrics were obviously given most of the attention to make sure they were perfect. This song kind of proves you can pretty much write a song about anything and make it sound very good. 5/5

Sins Of Omission (5.00)
This song is one of if not the best Testament song ever! I don't know why but I just ****ing love this song. Starts with a guitar intro and then builds up with Chuck powering vocals it is just a great song tomosh and to pit too. Another catchy chorus which I know I was singing for a few days an odd solo here and there from alex is the icing on the cake I really do recommend this song too all you people out there wanting to get into Testament or Thrash. 5/5

The Ballad (6.09)
Well I think it's pretty obvious what this song is. Normally I get fed up of ballads after a while but not this one. It is defiantly a good attempt, it slows you down from the constant moshing from Sins of Omission. I don't know how many times I am going to have to say this but Alex Skolnick ****ing kicks ***! A nice acoustic intro and acoustic solo. The song slowly starts to build up until finally they give up on the ballad and start to speed up. 5/5

Nightmare [Coming Back To You] (2.20)
The penultimate song on Practice What You Preach and it is the shortest song on the album. Not really my favorite on the album but it has a fast drums beat and its kind of a bit punky, of course apart from the absolute blinder of a solo. 3/5

Confusion Fusion (3.07)
An instrumental song for the last track and it is alright. The riffs, bass lines and drums are all great but I never really rate instrumentals as high as song with vocals unless of course they are very very good. 3/5

Probably Testament's most well known album and it is a very good album if you're a guitarist I would recommend it simply for the mind destroying solos from Alex Skolnick. This album is brilliant sure it isn't as thrash as the legacy but it still gets a 5/5 buy it!

Good review, you weren't bias at all :p
Gotta love that lineup, it all went downhill for Testament when The Ritual came out.

I got this a few days ago, it's pretty good. I expected more after hearing the title track, but it's a good thrash album.

What are some other good Testament albums?

Without a doubt you should get New World Order by them and also their debut album The Legacy.

I love this album along with The New Order both a great but i have to say The New Order is better. This is the album that got me into TestAmenT. Great but not every song deserves a 5 just like PWYP and Greenhouse Effect should the rest are 3-4s

I was blown away by this album...it's so good. Most lesser known Thrash bands that released albums before the 90's usually have horrible sound quality, but not here, and I think that's why I like this so much. So good...
