A rare occasion where a remaster yields spectacular improvements over the original in every way. Where the 2014 mix felt claustrophobic and fatiguing, with the instruments all piled on top of each other, this version explodes across a spacious and panoramic soundstage.
The drums are the most immediate and obvious improvement - they now have so much air and weight to them that the album feels even heavier, and paradoxically not fatiguing at all.
The increased dynamic range and new stereo imaging also reveal the intricacies of the bass work, and there are loads of little synth flourishes that I never noticed before, sparkling in the distance for the first time. Anyone who wrote The Flesh Prevails off due to the production should absolutely try this 2024 edition. It's the definitive way to experience the album.

As soon as I heard the single I ordered
the remaster. Got the album in the mail,
spun it like, 5 times back to back.
Promptly sold my original copy. There's
absolutely no reason to go back. The
production is substantially better.
Now let's hope they do Dreamless next.

I was so excited when I saw the news that this was being remixed/remastered. Unfortunately, it's only slightly less offensive sonically than the original. The snare and toms still sound horrible, but everything else sounds decent enough I suppose. Maybe in another ten years we'll get a perfected version.
