| 3.0 good | Antonius | September 25th 24 | The first album after 4 years finds the Swedish act firing on all cylinders. [i}Birthday[/i] is a vibrant album with natural energy and the desire to experiment. It is obvious that the band has focused on structure and catchy, sing-along hooky choruses, with Elin Larsson?s animated vocals being locked-in with the rhythm section of bassist André Kvarnström and drummer Kristoffer Schander. It is fair to say that Blues Pills have found a new direction following the departure of guitarist Dorian Sorriaux in 2018. However, this has been to the expense of the band's basic foundations: the bluesy rock riffs and the pastiche of 70s psychedelia which came with the early days. There is definitely some good material here but I would have preferred the production to be a bit more scruffy and ragged. Recommendations: "Holding Me Back", "Bad Choices", "Somebody Better".

| 2.8 good | Erwann S. EMERITUS | August 24th 24 | Birthday is both good and bad because it's the best Blues Pills album in a fucking decade, but it came at the price of the blues. This is aight pop rock with soul linings.
