3.5 great | Gary STAFF | January 22nd 24 | Pleasant (proggy) post-black album done by Mgla's "Darkside" and "The Fall". They cleverly avoided the curse of unoriginality via shepperding the album's style towards post-rock as well. This resulted in a rather slower flow and a pretty haunting and depressing atmosphere. You can absolutely feel this album was written by a drummer and a bassist, since the album is especially strong on the rhythm-front, which is really great. On the other hand, sometimes the record contains a few "gaps", which were put there to build atmosphere, but sometimes these moments felt rather hollow instead of thickly covered or embraced by the atmosphere they tried to evoke. Still great, but I this project hasn't reached its full potential. Yet.

3.5 great | ajcollins15 | January 23rd 24 | Debut album from the collaborative effort of drummer ?Darkside? and vocalist, guitarist, and producer ?The Fall? shows a bright potential of making heavy and thick black metal that strays away from even the most typical in the post-metal and black metal styles. Much of ?Hollow? reminds me of the output from Panopticon, especially with the light use of neofolk instrumentals on several tracks. The duo is definitely building out the landscape for their sound and I really cannot wait to see what that turns into.
