Review Summary: BLACK THRASH ATTACK MOTHERFUCKERS!!!
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of thrash metal. I dig a lot of the classics but have never been inclined to dive deeper into the genre. However, I am a HUGE fan of thrash mixed with black ***ing metal and these Ohio speedsters know exactly how to tickle that fancy.
As I mentioned, Hellkite is a raw black/thrash metal band from the barren wasteland of Akron, Ohio and this is their debut EP,
Chaos Destruction Evil. This thing hearkens back to the first-wave of black metal, with bands such as Bathory and Sarcofago being the main influences here. Raw production, buzzsaw riffs at warp speed, insane blast beats, hoarse shrieks pv death....everything is present. This EP is just a fun time.
The main drawback with
Chaos Destruction Evil is that it's barely even 10 minutes in length over the course of 5 tracks. I know it's only a debut EP, but man I would've dug a bit more of the sheer madness that these guys hit you in the mouth with.
This isn't going to knock your socks off with originalty, but it will put you through the ***ing ringer with a furious storm of riffs and attitude. Equal parts black metal and thrash, fans of either genre will find something to enjoy here. This is the perfect music to drink an ice cold beer and rock out to. Don't miss out.
