Review Summary: H.P. Lovecraft inspired dronebient about ancient unspeakable horrors witnessed by doomed scientific expedition.

More chilling horror soundscapes from the master of dark ambient, Fugit, but under the new moniker. This release shares a lot of mood and development with another release of the sound producer, Heavy Snow, but this time has a little more focus on continual storytelling and following its respected inspirations. The plot develops around a doomed scientific expedition in the deep of Antarctic ice, that witnesses the unveiling of the unspeakable and incomprehensible, trapped in the face of the inevitable fall.

As one might naturally recall the lovecraftian vibe in this creeping fear he’d be spot on right. This whole record is heavily inspired and based upon the works of the great chauvinist, Howard P. Lovecraft. This time we are talking more Lustmordian school of lifeless dronebient, with occasional glitches, tape defects and milking a couple of notes.

With the second track Ancient Scriptures the fabric of pure black ambient is mixed with otherwordly moaning, something very primal, older than human. This gives an unexpected twist to the otherwise classic sounding record. Another standout is the Harbinger, which completely changes the sonic pattern from bleak and dull to a hallowing hi-frequency keyboard levitation with more chilling sound effects that sound like erupting dark matter.

The closing part of the album combines two numbers, the shorter Neverending Night and the longer Evil Over Earth, which flow over into each other; with more use of nerve wrecking growls or whatever that probably is – we can state that Horror Soundscapes found their style for this record and exploit to make the maximum impression. And it works.

By the end of this album you will be empty, chewed and spat back into the darkness of endless winter in Antarctica.
