Review Summary: The Crunkcore Revival - has arrived.
Does Pineapple go on Pizza? It’s a question that has boggled even the most astute of minds. I am not going to go into the debate here because I for one, do not like pineapple on my pizza, but that doesn’t mean you can’t.
Crunkcore is a hotly debated genre. You may not like it; you may not understand it and the copious amount of hair gel may intimidate you. But do not fear. pizzamachine has made Crunkcore accessible even to the most pretentious of ears.
When you step into ‘Sorry Haterz’ you are stepping into a cacophony of sounds that will not only tingle the senses but challenge the brain. You are graced with an abundance of throat shreading screams and bass drops that are no laughing matter. Auto Tuned vocals will tickle the spot where no one dares to tickle you, rap verses will flood your little ear drums and the chugging of the guitar rears its head just enough to let you know that you are in IT.
What is IT?
IT is first and foremost, a good time. Not to be taken too seriously tracks like ‘Couch Sitting’ remind us all just how good couches can be and ‘Ice Cream Slut’ well, may or may not make you rub ice cream in your private areas…. ‘Rap Song’ my personal favourite has some genuinely good bars and pizzamachine knows it as he rightly so proclaims:
I could rap all day, but I don’t wanna.
Imma be the king. The big whopper.
Whilst lyrically, pizzamachine is poking fun, musically its where pizza gets R.E.A.L. It may be easy to overlook the excellent production and quality musicianship on show because its ‘Crunkcore’ and if you did well, that is your problem. ‘Neon Socks’ has a glorious beat behind it and instrumental track ‘Underwater Level’ is a true piece of beauty that makes one feel as though they are in fact, floating underwater after ingesting a large amount of Psilocybin with all the SpongeBob you can get. ‘No ***s Given’ has a beat that could have been on any early 2000’s TOP HITS disk that even had my children dancing along to, and let me tell you, they only dance to ‘The Wiggles’ so pizzamachine is on something here…
Crunkcore, is seen as a joke. Maybe it’s time for that to change. Maybe it’s time to look past the hair gel, skinny jeans and xHAWTx doods and doodettes. Maybe it’s time to appreciate Crunkcore for what it can be, and maybe pizzamachine is the Caped Crusader that Crunkcore needs.
