Review Summary: The filthiest filth you ever did hear.

I don't know what's in the water in South America, but holy hell do they know how to churn out quality death metal. Fossilization is a two-man death/doom band from Brazil and they want to eat your ***ing face off.

Leprous Daylight is a misleading album name because there is no light to speak of here. Nothing but dirt, grime and decay to be found within a 50 mile radius of this album. From the very first second you know damn well you're in for an absolutely unrelenting beat down. Fossilization shove your head in the mud with riff after riff hitting you like a freight train. The doom parts are reminiscent of funeral doom the way the riffs just totally beat you into submission. Fossilization never let off the gas even during the slower passages. The vocals are full of reverb and vitriol, adding to the full on assault of your brain cells.

Death/doom can be tricky. You have to make sure you don't become monotonous while also transitioning from one sound to another. Leprous Daylight is a clinic on how to do just that. The seemless way these guys can hit you with the most brutal death metal you'll ever wish to hear and then easily change to an agonizing funeral doom nightmare is the most impressive thing about this album. If you want to get down and dirty, let Fossilization take you on a ride!

Up there with the best of them. Definitely similar to Mortiferum but a bit doomier imo.

it sounds a bit more blackened too after sampling a couple tracks, some dead congregation leans (especially graves of the archangels)
