If Kollaps Tradixionales is anything like Adam Downer, then I will stay far, far away.

If Mono is like Waior- traditional, wordy, somewhat pretentious and divisive- and Do Make Say Think is like StreetlightRock- chill, consistent, generally solid all around- then Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra is like BallstotheWall- eccentric, loud, a little bit out there, but definitely unlike anything else you'll come in contact with in this context. Kollaps Tradixionales is another Silver Mount Zion release chock full of their idiosyncracies, including Efrim Menuck's bleating, unutterably pretentious song titles and structures, and a kind of "fuck convention, I'll do what I want" atmosphere to it that makes it fun to listen to as an alternative to what everybody else is doing in post rock.

Not their best, but a bombassthicc orchestral noisy folk punk record.

This is one of the underrated records in the A Silver Mt. Zion discography, acting as a wonderful amalgam between the folky post-rock of albums like Horses In The Sky and the art rock of 13 Blues and the post-punk-influenced F*ck Off, Get Free. One thing that really helps things is that Efrim Muneck sings less, and when he does sing, he's not bad and usually accompanied by other bandmates, recapturing some of that quirky majesty his vocals had on earlier records. The climaxes of Kollaps Tradixionales are also improved over its predecessor, with bookending tracks "There Is A Light" and "'Piphany Rambler" featuring a couple of moving crescendos complete with the best vocals of the record. It drags a slight bit during the middle of the record, but even still, the compositions are strong enough so that it's not much of a problem. It really sees the ambition of the band come to fruition much more consistently than anything they'd put out in the previous seven years, and as such manages to be their best work since This Is Our Punk Rock.

Never hits me like 13 Blues does, but the same atmosphere exists here. Effectively 4 epics, with the middle ones split up into small chunks (not unreasonably). One could say it gradually weakens as the album progresses, with There Is A Light being downright awesome and Rambler being so-so, but it's all worthwhile.

It's still pretty good, but "13 blues" is much more interesting album...

Kollaps Tradixionales is the sixth record from ambiguous post-rock quintet A Silver Mt. Zion (or as they're called on this release, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra). This album sees major improvements in Efrim's voice; he can actually sing in tune whilst still retaining the emotional, cathartic qualities heard on his earlier work. The music itself accentuates the "rock" in post-rock, remaining rooted in dynamics-based song structure whilst incorporating a edgy, dirty quality that really sets it apart from it's contemporaries. "'Piphany Rambler" is one of the best tracks in the band's discography to date.
