This is the sort of avant-garde black metal I can really get behind. Plenty of twists and turns but still cohesive enough to warrant many, many repeat listens.

I am not analytically intelligent enough to tell what exactly this VOtS album did right to click with me as opposed to the previous ones that did not. The main takeaway, however, is that this slaps in an unholy way. Perhaps it is a random stroke of lucky good writing paired with the band's sudden burst of stylistic niche avant-garde enough to keep it fresh and exciting, but not too outlandish to make the thing a chore to bite through.
