Review Summary: Conclusion: not a classic
Feed The Beast is another generic soda made from the pop machine churning out flatly carbonated farts like Maroon 5. Kim Petras sings, “everything I drop is a banger”, and while the song uh-oh isn’t completely terrible, not every track tracks. She has a knack for groovy choruses occasionally, the synths and keys are milky smooth, and decent singing is involved. That’s all that’s needed to make a good pop album, correct?
Bruh
There’s some entertainment here: searching for the most derivative song. This music would’ve fit on the radio three or six or twelve years ago, for certain. It’s the kind of pop that is completely forgettable aside from the overtly sexual lyrics. Millionaires sounded like they actually meant it, though Kim Petras just sounds bored, and sex isn’t boring (generally, it depends, but let’s not go into detail because smok might be watching).
The synths have life in them, enough to compete with the debuts from Lady Gaga and Kesha and then lose, but at least there’s an effort to keep synths in the memory bank. The same cannot be said for the beats or singing, which have such little creative gas it wouldn’t fill a Smart car. Any song off this album would make a passable Eurovision entry, though making a full album out of this is Kim’s fatal flaw. The same beat can be used only so many times until the lack of creativity tears a hole in the fabric of reality.
Let’s further tear this shitty shit apart before Gnocchi complains. Indeed, the snare drums have less punch than a tired gamer. To be even more detailed though, the faux hi-hat has a limp click sound like a lazy gamer tapping a remote button when his wrists hurt. The vocals though: quite nice sometimes, and quite mundane half the time. As far as the rhythm in songs, it goes: da-da-da-da (the vocal part). That’s better than the synths that go wahh and then wahh again (Taylor Swift’s Reputation would like a word). There isn’t much of an effort, the whole affair is dull and useless. This was supposed to be a fun album, and I want my time back.
