Review Summary: The beats bang, the energy is infectious, and that's just enough to give this a listen.

OJ Da Juiceman is merely an inferior, a follower, but despite being outshined under the wing of the slurry snow king Gucci Mane, OJ has gotten his shine in plenty of places. He’s appeared on Jadakiss’ terrible “Who’s Real”, and generally outshining his host and his single “Make Tha Trap Aye” is an underground super-hit, much like his fellow So Icey label mate Waka Flocka Flame’s “O Let’s Do It”. Before this fame, however, in a distant time called ‘a year ago’, when nobody really gave two ***s about Gucci Mane or OJ, OJ was dropping listen-worthy material equivalent to a slightly lesser modern Gucci. I Got The Juice is a solid round-about through the trap, with some nice alliteration and imagery mixed in with gushing synthesizer beats and ‘ayes’ galore.

Other than the occasional exception, like the 50s celebratory samples of “Frank Sinatra”, the albums is largely the same, sprawling synth arrangements from Zaytoven that sound perfectly at home for So Icey artists. Some of these are better than others, like the Nintendo bounce and whirling UFO sound effects “Lamborghini”, the thumping, gargling horror sounds of “Do It”, and the Tetris theme-gone-rap sounds of “Doin Numbers” seem to make themselves stand out amongst a good performance from Zaytoven.

OJ himself seems glad to be here, but a bit amateur. His rhymes occasionally shine like on “Frank Sinatra” or “Lamborghini”, and he sounds at his best when he’s telling us about what car looks like or how much dough he has, which is fortunately what happens. However, this topic and rapping style is not only too basic, but can’t reall6y stretch over twenty tracks. Instead of sounding like a whole record, I Got The Juice sounds like a bunch of highlights amongst mediocre material. However, Juice’s pure energy behind the mic and the ‘AYE’S’ is infuriatingly catchy, and his hooks are just as good if not better than that of his superior Gucci Mane. And because of this energy and the previously mentioned production skills, I Got The Juice is worth a check, but just barely due to regular mixtape troubles, consistency issues, fairly basic MCing.
