Review Summary: A bad shrooms trip.
To put it simply, this album is another one of those really abrasive noise projects. I found it off a site called smellthestench. I’ve never heard of any of the artists on it as all of the albums are exclusively released on their website. I don’t know anything about this guy or what drugs he was taking while he made this album. Regrettably, I chose this album completely at random to listen to. I’ll hand it to him though, 3 Is 3 is a pretty cool name.
From the dumb album name with pretentious punctuation, to a stupid album cover I could have made in paint, to the seemingly gibberish-oriented song titles, one can tell that this album will be really hard to digest. Quite frankly, you’d be a poor man to bet against these predictions. This album almost makes Merzbow’s
1930 a relaxing listen. All of the songs are very abrasive and similar sounding as if he decided to do the same goddamn thing every song with little variety. This isn’t some highbrow noise record that takes an intellectual mind to understand and perceive as art. This is redundant garbage.
This album is easily split into two different areas. One side of it is extremely abrasive and repetitive noise. It’s a sound I haven’t heard before that is kind of interesting. However, when it goes on for over half of this album it can drive even a devoted noise fan up the wall. It is just a giant blast with some demented high pitched squeals that can be heard over it. “Zsezen30”, “2nveeertigh”, most of “5n40”, and the first half of “Neegendertigg” all sound exactly like this. No joke. Sadly folks, that is 4 out of 5 of the tracks on this album. The other side of it is a very boring ambient drone. Basically, it is the same note/murk/drone/fart/sound for 10-16 minutes, depending on the track. The second half of “Neegendertigg”, and “Agtn40” have exclusively this sound. I am pretty sure they have the exact same thing played on both of them.
In conclusion, this album is really just two repetitive pieces bastardized into five. I haven’t tried, but maybe if you’re stoned or on a shrooms trip or something, this album might be a bit more interesting. Even so, there are so many albums that would satisfy that craving/area much better than Torg::h/h. This is probably one of the most obscure records I know of and will hopefully stay obscure. This isn’t the worst thing I have ever heard though as I enjoy listening to it in extremely small doses because of its pure density in its abrasive half.
Pros:
- Extremely Dense in the harsh noise part of the album.
- Not much else.
Cons:
- Basically two noise pieces stretched into five.
- Repetitive.
- Repetitive.
- Repetitive.
- “Ambient” half is tedious and haphazardly made.
