Review Summary: Two Atlanta Screamo bands team up for a brief, yet effective split release.
Some may say that we are in the midst of a screamo renaissance. The genre is getting more attention now than ever and as a result not only are old hero's reuniting to cash in on the well deserved praise that was absent in their original tenures, but we are seeing more and more young bands attempting to further a sound previously buried in the late 90's to early 2000's.
This brings us to Less Dead and Low Before the Breeze, two bands with very different approaches to hardcore's more emotional cousin. Less Dead approaches their side of the split with finesse, melodic guitar lines dance over drum and bass grooves to paint an atmosphere reminiscent of early Piano's Become the Teeth or Caravels. Low Before the Breeze, on the other hand, pummel the listener with blast beats and trem picking that has more in common with bands like The Locust or Pig Destroyer.
Neither side overstays its welcome; with a runtime of about 15 minutes I found myself excited for what comes next for these two bands.
