Review Summary: Skywards...and it never came back down

This is a band that started out expirementing with black metal and melodic death metal and crushed it into one gigantic quivering, snarling, white hot ball of malicious terror. Granted, they were not aiming to harm the listener, but their instruments. I have listened to this album for years and I always revisit it, in any mood. This is the type of album that brings you in, kicks your ass and then leaves you begging for another ass kicking...and by God you're gonna go back to get seconds, thirds, seventy-fifths, and each time it's more rewarding. This isn't one of those "play once and move on" albums... this is something to have in your repertoire as a hidden gem, something up your sleeve. When someone asks you what the heaviest album of all time is, of course you're gonna roll with None So Vile or Everything Is Fire, but when they're done showing off their predicted heaviness with ego, take this from the back burner with humility and let it scorch their brains with a nice end kicker that sets as hot as the Sun itself on their faces. Oh, they're gonna remember you and this album for sure. This is a hidden card, like a snake in the grass or a gass leak in the domain of where it's being played (and it also comes with a match) Bonus!

This album is one of a kind in many ways, most notably the production. Which sucks. In a good way, like an old school Kirby Vacuum. It sucks and it sucks good and it is proud of its sucking. When these guys went into the studio they had one goal. To not give a fuck and just record. The produduction was a rare thing that will not happen in this genre again. Granted, they were probably broke and couldn't afford a top tier studio...which I am happy for. I know what you're thinking..."dude they kick ass why would you say that..." Well, if it wasn't for this production this album wouldn't be as remarkable as I see it. Not in the sense of purposefully bad production, but the fact that they were on fire with this album and they got by with what they had and still made it sound otherworldly. There is not one single dull moment on this precious gift Fragments Of Unbecoming have provided to us in the manner of straight to the point brutal black metal mixed with some melodic. This album skyrocketed up towards the cosmos and apparently that's the only place it resides at this moment. But...when it comes down, it will come down hard and heavy like a really heavy...fuck me I lost track. I hate my neighbors and when I listen Skywards: A Sylphe's Ascension, so do my neighbors.

When this comes down, you will hear it. If not, open your ears.

I hear next to no black metal in the title track, seems like pretty standard melodeath

pos'd, but you forgot a "to" between listen and Skywards in the last sentence.

shame how underrated these guys are. Sterling Black Icon is a bop and the album they just released last year has some pretty good moments.

I like the production better here compared to Sterling Black. Also the vox are better.
